Looking for an Idea?

Then look no further!  Here is a list of interesting things to do within approximately two hours of central GA.
There is a weekly show on GPB (our local PBS affiliate) called Georgia Traveler.  It showcases various places and activities throughout Georgia.  Click the link above for more information or to watch past episodes online.
If you have been somewhere that you think needs to be on the list, then Contact Us.  We are always looking for new places to explore!

Atlanta Area:
One way to save money in the Atlanta area is to purchase the Atlanta City Pass.  It offers admission to multiple attractions for one price that is a lot less than if you bought tickets individually.
Dave & Busters - D&B is like a grown up version of Chuck-E-Cheese.  Great fun for the whole family and they have specials various nights of the week.
Georgia Aquarium - GREAT aquarium!  It does get busy on weekends and holidays, so if you are planning to go then, be prepared for a crowds and long lines.
World of Coke - World of Coke is a really cool museum that tells the history of Coca-Cola.  It has old advertising, a fun movie, and best of all; a tasting room at the end of the tour where you can sample Coke products from around the world.
Drive-In Movies - Who doesn't like to go back to a simpler time?!  Not to mention getting a great deal on movies!  See two movies at one low price (less than a regular movie ticket) and kids 9 and under get in for $1!!!  This theater has 6 screens to choose from (which means 12 movies are shown as there is a double feature at each screen) Additionally, most of the movies shown are current movies....not ones that will be released on DVD in a few weeks
Children’s Museum - We have never been here....it is a little high priced for us, but it sure looks fun & I know most kiddos would love it!
Zoo Atlanta - We have never been to this particular zoo, but I'm sure it is very nice.
Cabbage Patch Hospital - Take a tour at the Cabbage Patch "Hospital" and see Cabbage Patch Kids be "born".
Madison, GA - Madison is a town S/E of Atlanta that is known for its Antebellum homes.  It is also home to a "bubble car" museum.
Stone Mountain Park - A different type of family "amusement" park located around a giant stone mound.  You can climb the stone mountain or take the airial tramway to the top to get a great view.  They also have a ropes course for kids, playground, discovery barn, a historic plantation (that has been featured on SyFy's Ghost Hunters) and barnyard, as well as many other activities.
Other Areas:
If there is no description following a link, it is because it is somewhere we have never been.  Click to the link to read more about it.

Butts Mill Farm, Pine Mountain, GA
The Rock Ranch - Barnesville, GA  - Open primarily weekends in late summer and fall, The Rock Ranch is owned by Chick-Fil-A founder Truett Cathy.  They have many activities including a petting zoo, paddle boats, train rides, bounce houses, tiny village (really cool! The tiny kid-sized fire station even had a pole to slide down!) Each weekend features a different theme and entertainment to match the theme.  They also do special presentations for school groups and home-schoolers throughout the year.  Check the site or sign up for their mailing list as they do offer other events around different holidays.
Westville Village - Near Lumpkin, GA - A working 1850s town.  They offer special weekends and demonstrations throughout the year, so check the site frequently.
Lake Blackshear in Cordele, GA and LakeTobesofkee near Macon, GA  both offer beach areas for swimming as well as boat rentals and other activities.
Sam Shortline Railroad - Starts in Cordele, GA.  They offer several excursions to some very interesting stops.  Americus, GA (home of the Habitat for Humanity Global Village) is a frequent stop, as is Plains, GA; Home to former president Jimmy Carter.  President Carter is sometimes seen around town.  There are other specials and excursions, so check the site to select a tour.
Callaway Gardens - Pine Mountain, GA.  Click their Things To Do link to see all they have to offer.  I have heard that their Christmas light display is truly amazing.  They also have an animal safari.
Dauset Trails - Jackson, GA. FREE ADMISSION to their trails.  They have several species of animals to check out.  I'm not sure what else they have as we have never been there, but plan to go soon.
Savannah, GA - There is just too much for me to list here, and we have not been there yet.  When we do, I will list the highlights from our trip.
Tybee Island - This family friendly beach located on the Atlantic Ocean is only about 2-3 hours away from our home in central GA.  Offering typical beach fun.  I will list highlights when we make the trip.
